The diminutive Wintun Indian (a former construction worker) began the year with no backers, little expense money and a shaky marriage. Handicapped by his rabbit status--someone who has to qualify to enter most tournaments, and then pray he'll survive the cut--Curl hoped desperately to finish among the top 60 money-winners in order to make the PGA exemption list the following season. Despite the trying times, constant travel, and continual budget-watching that followed, the golfer scraped together enough tenth-place finishes to earn over $50,000 and realize his goal. The author succeeds in juxtaposing Curl's travails against the fate of the other tag-alongs, caddies and golfer wives. Hip and surprisingly lively coverage.
