SORCERER'S APPRENTICE

Gift item- somewhat stylized and pretentious, and of questionable appeal to the children for whom, presumably, it is intended. Gothic type, with illuminated paragraph capitals-decorations- half titles and so on, in red. The story follows closely the musical fantasy by Paul Dukas,- L'Apprenti Sorcier-a story that somehow lacks the folk fantasy appeal it should have, perhaps because it is done in jogging rhymed-prose. Donald Cooke has made delightful pictures, particularly the decorative spots and headings, which I liked better than his full pages.
