Nine days of an English convoy on the Murmanok run during the height of the U-boat threat. Concentrating on the fortunes of the aircraft carrier Viscount, this book gives a minute by minute account of the duties and dangers endured by all of the crew--admiral, captain, airmen, petty officers, gunners--with sidelights on some of the other ships in the convoy. Characterization is at a minimum hero, detail and authenticity at a maximum and the result (except for the abundance of watered down profanity) reads more like an excellent book for teen-age boys interested in naval warfare, than a war story for the adult market.
