THE BALCONY

Not a book for those who demand their details neatly welded, their clues strictly followed through, but a mystery-romance of the Rinehart school, with the story better than the mystery. The Hieronomo family clan had gathered to celebrate their emergence from slavery to the ancestral seat -- to peer again into the strange deaths of Great Aunt Patience and the old grandfather, to wonder what happened to the fortune, to discuss the feud with the neighbors. Story told by young Anne. So-so.
