THE KIND COMPANION

One of these books that aims at two markets and misses both. An Irish story of an old man, blind ten years, and his terrier. Winter keeps him housed, but in the summer they visit from town to town and sleep under the skies. Bits of nature lore-scraps of sentimental adventures in which Tim, the terrier, is hero -- a happy ending in which the old man regains his sight. Sweetness and light, dated as to both style and pictures. But word of mouth endorsement sold a good many copies of the English edition so those who eat up any sentimental dog story may like it.
