THE SKY SUSPENDED

The world of 1960 has moved very far from the world of 1940. We do not dare run the risks inherent in forgetting completely the causes and beginnings of World War II, but present global problems press so closely upon us that the days of the Battle of Britain seem incredibly remote. Now, 20 years later, ""air power in terms of the bomber and the fighter""--the terms of this book-- ""...is rapidly becoming as dated as the wooden walls of Nelson's navy"". If The Sky Suspended adds a few morsels of historical knowledge to the already vast literature on the period, all well and good, but it is massively repetitive of something Sir Winston Churchill, for one, has done better. It is not likely to cause any great stir in either military or political circles. Whatever it contains of mild controversy regarding particular figures or episodes has long since been explored and laid to rest in obscure archives.
