THE INVASION OF CHINA BY THE WESTERN WORLD

The author has had first hand acquaintance with the new forces, new men and new literature of China. He has written a scholarly book tracing the effect of the meeting of a new culture and an old. This book is not a history of trade or war or diplomacy, but a discussion of the effects of western political thought, education and science on the Chinese mind. The missionary influence is discussed; the reader can draw his own conclusion as to its ultimate purpose and contributionl. The author is very objective, and not concerned with motives but with the results on Chinese culture. He discusses, too, the part played by modern Chinese thinkers and leaders. A good basis for thoughtful consideration of international affairs in the light of cultural conflict. A book for the inquiring reader interested in educational and religious problems in China today.
