Report repeated from page 617 of the 12/1/46 bulletin- when scheduled for earlier spring publication, as follows: ""A background book for the inevitable and pending northward migration boom towards one of the last frontiers. Following a route by seasons, this book takes one journeying from Seattle to Sitka, Ketchikan, Kanse Peninsula, Matanuska, the Aleutians, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau. Here are words of caution, combined with reasonably temperate booster claims, about the possibility of making a living and establishing a family in this country- a balance of the advantages against the disadvantages, an insistence on ""taking a look"" before dropping an old life in the States. The fishing, mining, farming; the means of travel; health and education; governmental problems; stories of those who have come to stay- and those who have gone back home. A picture of the place that maintains the magnetic pull while its purpose in warning is never lost sight of... In the Far West and Northwest there is an omnivorous appetite for books about Alaska. With time and space fast shrinking, that interest will spread. This meets a real need. Excellent library item.
