LUCY BROWN AND MR. GRIMES

I am afraid I am not an Ardizzone fane. Last year's picture book seemed to me rather too involved for the age interested in picture books, and this book has the same fault. It is the story of an old man who was so ugly that everyone turned away from him, and of how he finally made friends with a little girl in the park. A beautiful piece of book making, but not essentially a book for little children.
