DONKEY AND CARLO

This mild little tale begins when Carlos' donkey balks at going to market with his ""friend"" but complies after Carlos promises that they will be home before dark. But once Carlos has sold all his vegetables, there are such distractions (plum cakes, a band, a juggler, a parade), and finally such fatigue on Carlos' part, that he decides to stay overnight in town--until loud braying reminds him of his promise and, all apologies, he sets off for home. The authors' affectionately scribbled brown and tan pictures might win some amused sympathy for the donkey; the story alone is a bit fiat.
