WILLOW TREE VILLAGE

Mildly disturbing adventures befall Mimosa, young daughter of a wealthy Chinese merchant, who decides she no longer wants to live within the five courtyards of her beautiful house. Dressed in the clothes of her nurse's daughter Sunflower, who is just Mimosa's age, she goes out the gate and into the city. There, her encounters with its people- a beggar woman, a juggler and others- have their frightening elements that send Mimosa scurrying to Willow Tree Village where Sunflower lives and where her anxious father comes to find her. Mrs. Lattimore has written several stories set in China (Wu, The Gatekeeper's Son etc.) and this, as the others, is the simple yet eventful kind of book 8 and 9 year olds like.
