THE CROWN

This is a mystical story of the redeeming of a pledge --against the setting of a village in Sweden a generation ago. For years the possession of an elaborate many-prismed chandelier has been the glory of a mean parish church. Then it is taken from them, only to be recovered through sacrifice and devotion. Chance seems to give the opportunity of redemption to a simple girl, thrust out by her pagan family, rescued by the lady of the manor, eventually married to a ne'er do well and brought to shame. Against incredible odds, the thirty year sacrifice is completed, the chandelier restored. A slender thread of plot, with moments of great beauty. Limited appeal.
