ANGELA OF ANGEL COURT

Big city slums background Angela a nine year old Italian girl and her stiff-lipped efforts to help her widowed mother pay the rent, and to win a music scholarship for herself. Her younger sister Maria helps with the first project until Mr. Bianchi the landlord takes a liking to the family. For the second, Angela, in spite of a sprained wrist, plays in a recital but loses to a Jewish boy whom she knows deserves the scholarship more. A warm hearted, if honeyed, view of a struggling people.
