A CASE FOR JENNY ARCHER

Another story about a likable heroine--first introduced in A Job for Jenny Archer (p. 616/C-94)--whose enthusiasm outweighs her common sense. It's summer, and Jenny is spending her time reading mysteries. With each, her fertile imagination goes to work on the empty house next door. She convinces herself that the painters and carpenters who are preparing for the new owners (the Moores) are actually gangsters, and that Beth Moore is not really the family's daughter but has been kidnapped. Once the Moores move in, Jenny persists (though her parents' patience is wearing thin): those men taking the Moores' paintings must be thieves. She is so sure of it that she calls the police and--to her parents' astonishment--this time Jenny is right. The fantasy-become-reality does stretch credulity; still, the easy humor and unexpected resolutions of Jenny's second adventure will amuse readers looking for easy ""chapter books."" Attractive, full-page drawings extend the humor.
