THE GOLDEN DICTIONARY

My other ""top choice"" of the Giant Golden Books -- a fascinating sort of dictionary for beginning readers, with recognition value keyed even to the picture book age; and with primary grade value for association, definition, usage, etc. Pictures -- actions -- letters -- words -- phrases, built around 1030 words, each illustrated and defined in terms of child comprehension with various parts of speech built on a key word. Sometimes there is a whole page of illustrations of group words -- such as Animals -- Foods -- Machines. Sometimes there are pictures for each of the different meanings of a word. All in all, a book that will provide endless entertainment with educational by- products. The pictures -- by Miss Elliott -- are admirably fitted to the need. The project was done under the supervision of Dr. Mary Reed of Teachers' College, Columbia University.
