The story of the fiery Elijah, and his one man battle against heathen Jezebel and the power she had over Israel through her hold on King Ahab, is circumspectly told but faithful in its characterizations of the times and of the dichotomy between the monotheistic faith of the Israelites and the pagan religion imported by Jezebel from Sidon. In the three main characters there is a good illustration of individual traits- Elijah's devotion which was strong enough to move spiritual mountains, Ahab's doubting fears and Jezebel's crass love of luxury and authority. A good expansion of a part of the Bible that shows the struggle between God and Mammon in bold relief.
