THE JEWISH DILEMMA

Here is the other side of the picture presented by Milton Steinberg's A Partisan Guide to the Jewish Problem (Bobbs-Merrill -- see report P. 238), for Rabbi Berger speaks for the assimilationist point of view, refutes Jewish secular nationalism in theory, and Zionism as an answer to the Jewish dilemma. He dismisses the confusion and myth which surrounds the Jew, proves that there is no such separate entity as a ""Jewish people"" shows why the philosophy of Jewish nationalism in invalid, and discusses the history of Zionism in more detail than I have seen it elsewhere, the ambiguity and argument from the Balfour Declaration to the more recent storm breeder, the White Paper. Rabbi Berger believes in free Jews in a free world, and integration; he shows how it has worked the recent Fascist-Nazi program reversed the process. He hopes it will work again. ... A viewpoint more pepresentative of the average American Jews today reenforced by historical fact, presented with direct persuasion.
