SINKIN' SPELLS, HOT FLASHES, FITS AND CRAVINS

A sort of Foxfire parody hoked-up with comic-book crackerese and moderned-up with Kool Whip and Ritz cracker crumbs, this follow-up to the recently deceased Mickler's White Trash Cooking (1986) treats gourmet-bashing backlashers to color photos, fit-to-be-tied anecdotes, and recipes with names like ""rack of Spam,"" ""weenies and tortellinis,"" ""fancy-schmancy tuna noodle bake"" and ""rattatoo-ee you all""--the last of which differs from its French ancestor chiefly in the addition of okra. For feasting, there's a Roast Christmas Possum, which must be caught, cornfed, killed, and smeared with jam before roasting. But readers who tire of an eight-page, one-sided phone conversation on the ruckus at Edna Rae's funeral, or of maidenlady librarian Miss Minna Dean Winkle's monologue on Jeanette Belle Pink's awesome hot flashes, probably won't have much patience with the recipes either.
