Carrie Belding, all of 28, is asked to escort Maria, a 17 year-old-heiress-to-be, to the south of France where Maria had fallen in love with Egan, one of two brothers running a little hospice called La Ferme -- not very well. Carrie is just as susceptible to brother Conor but she doesn't know whom to blame when Maria's dresses are slashed with a razor, when the hostile housekeeper falls to her death, and when she discovers heroin hidden in a picture frame. Not quite as unthinkable as Ethel Gordon's first book but still fluffy category kitsch which won't raise her consciousness any higher than her eyebrows.
