JOSEFINA FEBRUARY

nusual colored pictures (on the arty side) follow a young Haitian in search of a new pair of shoes for her grandfather. She trades a newly found burro to Mr. Hippolyte, a sugar cane farmer, for the red shoes. What was gently begun is delicately concluded when the wobbly-legged burro becomes Josefina's, and the red shoes become Grandfather's. The illustrations by the author reflect the tropical world and are action-filled, but may appeal more to adults than children.
