Primitive peoples made use of basic scientific principles which are just as applicable to modern society. In this companion volume to The Indians Knew, The Pilgrims Knew and The Chinese Knew the authors combine science and anthropology in a most ingenious way. The Eskimos knew that they could keep food from spoiling by freezing it. Today modern freezers appear everywhere. By experimenting with two pieces of raw meat, the child will notice how effective freezing is. Each double spread page explores another aspect of Eskimo knowledge, comparrs it with modern adaptations and invites the young reader to prove the principle himself. There is a surprising amount of information and many experiments which are suitable for second and third graders.
