FATHER BAKER

A journalist's popular, short biography of the famed Father Baker of Lackawanna, New York, this volume will acquaint the reader with the known details and extraordinary qualities of the life of a saintly, humble, energetic, boundlessly charitable American priest. Father Baker managed and founded The Working Boys' Home and two Working Girls' Homes in Buffalo, N.Y., St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum, Our Lady of Victory Infant Home, Our Lady of Victory Hospital, St. John's Protectory, and many trade schools in Lackawanna, as well as the Basilica of Our Lady of Victory, which has become a well known place of pilgrimage. He died in 1936 after a life devoted exclusively to the demands of charity. This is an edifying, fast-paced account, with the accent on human interest items.
