by Frances Alda ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 19, 1937
A warmly human and very entertaining operatic autobiography of one of the great stars of the old Metropolitan. Frances Alda is still a personality in the musical field; she has known everybody and makes no bones of her opinions of many of them; she is frank almost to naivete, unashamedly displaying her love of the glamor of the life of a prima donna. Hers was, for the most part, an extraordinarily easy road to fame, or else she has soft-pedalled the thorny paths. But she has not hesitated to paint herself as she is, with her temper, her fire, her passions. Good reading, and might readily be sold not only to the general run of customers who enjoy musical background books, but to those who like women's autobiographies and fiction readers who liked Of Lena Geyer. Vivid pen portraits of famous people -- anecdotal --occasionally gossipy, without being malicious.
