This is the story of the Swedish nightingale's early years in Stockholm, of her discovery by Herr Croellus and her eventual training for the opera. Since Jenny Lind's home life was fraught with anxiety, it was natural for her to turn to the uncomplicated affection of the little gray kitten she called Kisse Katt. Through the childhood years Jenny became accustomed to confide in her little pet and to sing to it every night. From this simple relationship, the child drew courage and warmth. Children who own pets will understand Jenny's attachment to Kisse Katt -- the most believable aspect of the story. Much of this early biography is written through rose colored glasses -- lending an artificial, overly sentimental touch.
