MANUAL OF HOME VEGETABLE GARDENING

In the cooler parts of the country where gardens are not ploughed in March and planted in April, this book (coming April 17th) still has a chance for this year's gardeners, and it is one of the best. Its major drawback is its late arrival. A plan, however, is a gardener's first step, so sell this through the year for next season's planning. It is another how-to-do-it from artichokes to zucchini. Each vegetable is carefully and fully discussed, -- soil, tools, insecticides, frost tables and all the rest. Terms are explained as they are used. A very complete book for the novice. Doubleday's outdoor books have a wide public and this will add to it. The ground covered is about the same as Dempsey's -- but its less advanced.
