THE BROOKLYN DODGERS

A championship book about the team that grew in Brooklyn. What a team! The Dodgers are known the world around as ""the bums"" --""the daffiness boys"" -- by all and sundry cognomens, none of them dignified or respectable. This is their story, from the first professional team in 1883 up to the last strike of the 1944 season. It tells of Brooklyn greats and near greats, of Ebbets, the McKeevers, Robinson, McPhall, Durocher, Rickey, and hundreds of players who contributed to the comedy and the tragedy of baseball in Brooklyn. Not merely a recital of records and names but a story that weaves itself into one fabric of baseball as a game, as big business, as a who's who of America's favorite sport. Any baseball fan will get a kick out of the inside stories that Graham, Sports Editor of the N.Y. Evening Sun tells. Dodger fans will eat it up. Each period of baseball history is made interesting but the McPhail-Durocher period is unbelievably fascinating.
