LIGHT AND DARKNESS

The pictures are light and dark as indicated but light-hearted throughout, the text clear, if narrowly focused, a first view of the subject. Essentially the message is that light comes from things that are hot--the sun, stars, flashlight, candle flame--and that most things do not make light but are seen because light falls on them and is reflected to us. More sophisticated concepts are reserved for later, suiting this more to preschoolers just starting to ask hard questions than to the reading child for whom the series is geared.
