PETER AND THE NORTH WIND

A much simplified retelling of the Norse ""The Lad Who Went to the North Wind."" Though the language lacks the distinction of the original, this concise remnant compares well with other reading material available for beginners. Howell's full-color paintings in soft tones set the tale in a familiar fairy-tale world; Peter, in a tattered shift, is remarkably young and cherubic, but the wind is full of vigor.
