Chronologically, from January on, the house, the brook, the crocus, the grass, the tree, the rain, the sun, the wheat, the fire, the wind, the cricket, the Christmas Tree -- all speak for their period of the year, and, as ""I"", tell of the incidents, the atmosphere, the cyclic changes, the background of nature, and life in the country. The twelve scratchboard drawings to illustrate each section by Ilonka Karast have the same lyrical quality as the text and are an effective accompaniment. A specialty book for the more sensitive reader.
