Occasional flotsam mainly from the '60's output of Old Salts on strange seas: Lafferty, Roberts, Knight, Silverberg, Zelazny, Leiber and the late Cordwainer Smith. The editor's aim is to thread these diverse items on the appreciation or ordinary human emotions in rum surroundings -- futuristic earth societies (a time-speed up, a honeycomb community and America the Tranquil cringing from a Green Fear); sinister English moors; a vaguely Greek archaic isle; a lonely space station. Only Cordwainer Smith's packed fantasy of a wormy world of sophisticated machines and a centuries-old Turtle Girl, however, achieves convincing psychical depths. Run of the millenium.
