MAJOR BRITISH WRITERS

To ""study the works of great writers with greater intensity"", this project has been prepared by seventeen eminent university figures who have contributed also a broad, introductory orientation, notes, and reading suggestions for each of the seventeen writers chosen. The guiding editorial principle has been that the writer chosen should be not only great in himself, but also representative of his age and of significance to ours. The ""Major British Writers"" here are Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, Bacon, Donne, Milton, Swift, Pope, Johnson and Boswell, Wordsworth, Keats, Browning, Arnold, Shaw, Yeats and Eliot. Approximately 75,000 words of each writer are included- preferably complete works (i.e. Shakespeare's Hamlet and The Tempest)... The handsome format may extend the market here beyond the educational which is its primary designation.
