Since Bagley is also present at that party (during which the most recent ex-wife threatens to kill Tommy with her little purse pistol), he's drawn into the case, forced to be moderator while the six boisterous ladies feud, gossip, flaunt, and--wonder of wonders--provide alibis for each other. And the comic energy (who knew Bagby could brew such nifty dialogue?) keeps the real culprit from being totally obvious. Bagby & Schmidt are always a fast read; here they're fast and fun.
