This might almost be labelled as today's Wild Animals I Have Known, for George Cory Franklin has the same quality that Ernest Thompson Seton had of making the reader feel not only the authenticity of his natural history background and love of the wild animals of which he writes, but an uncanny faculty for getting into the skin of the animals, making their stories him. As son of a couple who pioneered in the vast, wild areas of the country between Colorado and New Mexico, he knows at first hand the country, flora and fauna, the lives of prospectors, ranchmen and hunters, all of which go into the vitality of his stories of the animals of the region. He has made his heroes of wolves, foxes, coyotes, and many lesser known creatures. A good sense of story makes this collection exciting reading for young people.
