HEINRICH SCHLIEMANN: Discoverer of Burica Treasure

The discoverer of Ancient Troy makes a better subject for early readers than Froud does. The power of Schliemann's compulsion to prove Homer's verses accurate is lost here and his years of business in Russia, as well as Gold Rush California, are only mentioned hastily. However, the techniques Schliemann developed for archaeological digging are informative and his final triumphs and trophies are accurately described and illustrated. The effects of his finds on archaeological study are also put in context. Mr. Bjorklund's drawings are realistic and proportionate. They carry some of the information that is also in the text.
