In her first picture book, an artist who has worked on porcelain and glass gives exquisite homage to the natural world, especially the birds and other animals that burgeon in close, decorative juxtaposition in her intricate, many-bordered compositions. The accompanying poem is earnest in its plea to save the environment for us all, but burdened by overwrought images (""what would you do [if]. . .you found your land scorched under the sun's cracking blaze, furrowed like an old Indian chief's face?"") and sentimental anthropomorphism (""What frightens a wetland bird? Greed""). Lovely illustrations, but essentially a greeting card of a book.
