Sex, the loosening of family ties and the acquisition of independence, and the attainment of success and recognition are the key emotional problems which burden the adolescent. Not still a child, but not quite an adult, his fears and uncertainties can be attenuated often by kindliness. The author's urge treating adolescents as people rather than as problems. Sympathetic understanding awarded by teachers, ministers and others who play a significant role can be invaluable. Helpful to parents with normal children ...but not outstanding in the already established literature.
