THE DECREE

Historical romance of 12th century Venice, where after an unsuccessful war with the Greeks, a devout monk is allowed to enter the world and marry a doge's daughter to propagate the line. The girl had lost her lover in the wars -- the monk is merely doing his duty, and not until the death of their first son, does the marriage take on reality. Almost too late they realize their love -- his recall to the monastery is imminent -- when the pope intervenes and he is reprieved. Well-told -- a clean tale.
