POETS IN A LANDSCAPE

This charming volume is the record of a passionate pilgrimage to the native land and cities of seven classical Roman poets. In the brief but sparkling lives of Catullus, Vergil, Propertius, Tibullus, Horace, Ovid and Juvenal, Highet has included fine translations of significant poems and he has placed the whole in an intimate setting of their native backgrounds, homes and villages which he has apparently visited recently and with deep reverence and interest. Highet's radio audience and his very readable style should provide a good number of readers among the more serious high school Latin students.
