PLACE OF THE DAWN

Picture-prettified even if grounded in the terrain (Gordon Taylor was once stationed in Turkey), this makes the ascent of a small volcano--""just a walk-up""--over an archaeological site where a handful of Americans and natives are based. The climb is a romantic woman's dream-to-come-true, but near an untouched tomb Julia's two companions are killed in their sleeping bags, although she manages to get down alive (old hatreds, new schisms). Clement, for the ladies, mostly because they're there too.
