JESUS AND THE FUTURE

Note the sub-title, ""An Examination of the Eschatological Discourse, Mark 13, with Special Reference to the Little Apocalypse Theory"", and you have an idea of the nature of this book. It is a technical book dealing with the problems of Biblical criticism centering about the exegesis of a chapter generally ignored in present day Bible study and preaching, viz, Mark 13. It is a book for theologians and New Testament scholars, but, in view of the main topic for discussion at the August meeting of the World Council of Churches, ""The Christian Hope"", it will be more widely read here than would ordinarily be the case. The author, a British theologian, gives an outline of the viewpoints on this chapter advanced by New Testament critics over the last hundred years. His own position is that you cannot dispense with the eschatological emphasis in the teaching of Jesus by the simple expedient of declaring that the 13th Chapter of Mark contains extraneous material traceable to other sources. For theologians and Biblical scholars only.
