A HORSE TO RIDE

Viewing this as a first reader, using as content material a topic that seems never failing in interest -- the acquisition of a horse to ride -- this meets the needs on several scores. There are plenty of pictures of Terry and the Palomino, Turk, and the text has vocabulary that second year readers can manage, particularly if they are interested in horses and how to care for them. But, viewing the book as a story, it is pretty conventional and slight, curiously casual and lacking in incident.
