A group of families pioneer in modern times to the Columbia Basin Project where they help each other in countless ways to build their farms. When Peter finds a valuable rock containing precious stone, he offers the resultant money to buy church land despite his longing for a certain black colt. Peter's offer sparks larger contributions from the rest of the community and he has money enough for the colt.
