TALES FROM DICKENS

Generally considered the best of the introductions to Dickens, and has held in minor degree, the place Lamb's Tales from Shakespeare hold as introduction to original. Briefs of stories based on sixteen of the novels. Selection is good and content does not take all the cream off the books themselves, as selection is made of incidents covered. originally published in 1905. Reginald Birch illustrations a characteristic feature. If one must break young readers into Dickens this way, this is as good a way to do it as any. Actually, I'd prefer to hold off on Dickens until after twelve, when boys and girls are ready for the books themselves.
