THE RELIGIONS OF MANKIND

A widely recognized German scholar offers here an inclusive description of man's religions. He does not attempt to evaluate or compare them, but simply to present the most important facts about them. The first part of the book gives brief explanations and definitions of basic concepts and elements that make up man's religious cultures. This is followed by accounts of extinct religions of the world, of the great religions of the East, and finally, of what the author calls the religions of ""biblical revelation""--Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Such an inclusive sweep of material results, unavoidably, in compressed accounts of the various religions presented. The book takes on the character, therefore, of a reference handbook. It will be found useful as a resource by students and general readers interested in gaining concise information about the world's religions.
