CANDLES FOR THE DEAD

This is another tandem job for Fleet Street crime reporter Quinn and his insurance assessor crony John Piper. The puzzle unfolds when businessman David Breame does a Swedish lady friend a favor smuggling in a birthday cake which is later found to contain photos of the Israeli Embassy. A practical joke? Espionage? Two murders later, you still won't have the foggiest. Once again Carmichael keeps throwing you curves, and you'll be glad to swing and miss.
