Plenty of good sound advice, here, done in breezy, slangy, informal style (which, somehow, seems wrong for the subject). The material is divided into two main parts:- I- The Short Story; in which he discusses story pattern, plot sources, characters, plausibility feeling, viewpoint, dialogue, unity, style, pace, the do's and dont's of title. He advises aspirants to study their market, analyse its needs. He then goes on to the question of agents; Part II- The Magazine Article; he goes into sources of ideas, into the importance of thorough research and a basic outline, into the qualities to strive for, clarity, simplicity. Basic throughout the book is his advice to writers- ""to write"". Good list of books on writing.
