PIGTAIL PIONEER

Set in the same territory as Stormy Year and The Mystery of Catc Island, also by these authors, this goes back a hundred years to tell of Lotty Went's first year as a pioneer farmer's daughter near Portland. Along with the details of getting settled and making a go of cabin life and land clearing, a this story thread sees Lotty get over her prejudice against Indians. From the moment Lotty arrives she fears the Indian village nearby and especially the old squaw who comes looking for a small carved stone which Lotty has found. But there is friendliness rather than enmity in the squaw's search and the first year's end sees the start of new understanding.
