A domesticated sort of witch tale, based on Welsh legend, in which Grimalkin goes to live on a farm, then calls on his former mistress the Witch for aid when the farmer is having a run of bad luck. Benign as any extension service worker, the witch finds the source of the farmer's ills--a wicked Imp, whom she disposes of by shrinking and burying him in a jar. Quentin Blake's sketchy illustrations are similarly tame, except where poor color resolution results in an unpleasantly dizzying shimmer.
