I liked this better than any collection Nash Buckingham has done -- though no single story surpasses the classic Shootines' Gent'man. Listed by the publishers as fiction, this roads like a collection of personal experiences, dating back to his own childhood and beginnings of the making of a great sportsman of the old school. Most of the stories are set in the South, -- in duck blinds, at field trials, on lakes and rivers and marshlands; there are stories of great hunters, and great gentlemen of the field brotherhood, from Negro paddlers to noblemen. There is humor and sentiment and good spinning of yarns -- and threaded through all, the code of sport in its best sense, the love of outdoors. The buy for your sport book collectors in a year when the choice of material of this kind is very limited.
