. . . is the day before Christmas when Mama and Papa are grounded in town by the worst blizzard ever, and Cissy is left to cope overnight with Margie who's ten and six-year-old Tim. Cissy's thirteen-going-on-twenty when it all starts, dreaming of leaving childhood behind for the poetic world of adults. But she's happy to settle for young adolescence after glimpsing the responsibility of caring fora family. Which is the quite didactic point here. Tim is cute enough, and the problems of the Saskatchewan storm for isolated prairie people are real enough, but the day in question is more than long enough to depress your Christmas spirits.
